Wordy Women

On Monday I will be taking part in a panel discussion as part of the Chorlton Arts Festival full info below

Wordy Women: A discussion about Women, Art and Text

Monday 23rd May
7.30pm at Chorlton Library

Come along to this presentation and open discussion which I will be hosting with Artist Jackie Wylie and Illustrator Caroline Coates. This will be followed by a drink in the local bar The Nip and Tipple on Upper Chorlton Rd. The event is free and is part of the Chorlton Arts Festival.

Emily Pitts, Manchester Artist, will host a presentation, outlining a brief history of the use of text in art, with particular reference to women and text, followed by an open discussion with the audience. Emily will be joined by a panel of artists to explore both current and historical practice and the way in which women have taken up the mantel of renowned conceptual artists to develop this medium as a platform for social and political comment. They will present and make reference to their own works and those of artists past and present, including Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger and Lawrence Weiner. The presentation and talk will last approximately 90 minutes and will be followed by a gathering at local bar The Nip and Tipple.”

Sheffield

my usual craft fairs are usually in and around Manchester sometimes sneaking into the rest of Lancashire but tomorrow I will be at The Showroom Cinema and Workstation in Sheffield!!!! I grew up in Sheffield and it's great to finally get round to doing a craft fair there. The workshop is run my Fifi markets for more details on this fair and to see examples of over exhibitors check out their site http://www.fifismarkets.com/

I keep coming back to the Workstation just after school a was involved in a radio project there part of Sheffield's children's festival at just 16 and they let me live on radio, think we only got told off once for bad language. ops! and then when I was a at college my work experience was for a Graphic design company based there. though both experiences were great really hoping to actually make some money this time.

I'll be doing more craft fairs in Yorkshire and in Derbyshire over Spring and Summer more details to follow

An Illustration I have just done for Amelia's magazine for an article about The Trash Fashion Exhibition at the Science Museum http://antenna.sciencemuseum.org.uk/trashfashion/
The original dress container 1000 pieces of folded paper admittedly mine doesn't contain that many... but each of the handmade paper origami cranes I made for this illustration are less than 2 centimetres in height.
